Anja Uhren: encounters

Encounters is a series of illustrations by Anja Uhren, self-published in a nice A5 booklet of 28 pages.

The images were first created for a calendar, so there are twelve illustrations, one for each month. Each comes with a short bit of text adding a little flavor to the already rich and enchanting pieces. The text background looks like scraps of adhesive tape overlapping, the words are written in careful handwriting which creates a nice handmade feel. I liked the warmth and gentle surreality of the pictures. The accompanying lines help guide my imagination, the combination of text and image nudged me into the emotional openness and curiosity about these encounters.

The saddle stapled booklet has a very nice feel with sturdy, glossy paper. The piece of string is a nice addition and makes quite a difference - not in structural integrity, obviously, but it adds to the "handmade" feeling mentioned above and fits perfectly into the overall style.
